Chill Hours

The number of hours when the air temperature between 32°F and 45°F. Winter hours above 60°F are subtracted from the total. The minimum period of cold weather a fruit-bearing tree needs to blossom and produce fruit. Cold climates have more chill hours than warm climates. See also VERNALIZATION.
